We bought a harness the other day so that when we go to the zoo we can let my son be the free spirit that he is.

What are your thoughts on these? I know some people call them leashes.

I think they can be a great safety tool in public places when used properly (not to drag a poor kid around lol)

Don't worry if you get some funky looks from people! Whatever makes your day easier and doesn't hurt anybody is just fine :)

Each mom can make their own choices for kids. I have seen moms use a harness/leash in a manner that actually seemed to help, but I have also seen the parent dragging their screaming kid during a total meltdown. I could go either way.. I don't think twice when used in an appopriate manner, but sadly, it is the one dummy of a parent that ruins it for the rest of society.

We have one that we used and we loved it. My son loved being on it. He was the child who would not hold your hand but would run if you didn't hold his hand. This was the solution to that problem. He got to feel like he was free to walk how and where he wanted and yet we knew he was safe and couldn't go very far.I didn't feel like I was treating my son like a puppy at all. It's not like I put a collar and leash on him.

But they both are perfect bait for child snatchers, especially if you let them out of your sight -- do you both intend to carry your children everywhere until they are teenagers?

I rather endure snotty comments from snot nosed parents who think their way is the ONLY way than lose my ds.

The point is that your son is not a puppy just because you don't choose to hold him the entire time you are in a crowded place OR choose to use a harness.  A hand hold is too easily broken, and yoru son easily swept away, to rely on.
