Moving to a toddler or twin bed

Well, tonight is Caroline's first night in her big girl bed.  Since Caroline and my 5 year old stepdaughter will be sharing a room, we decided to get them bunk beds.  My SD is not here all the time and it just made the most sense.  Today and tonight didn't go quite as planned, it seems Caroline has caught some kind of bug and has thrown up a few times.  She is now in her bed sleeping and we hope she gets a good nights sleep.

What are your plans for moving your baby from the crib or toddler bed?  Do you have an older child that has been through it?  What were your experiences?

Do you have 2 kids under 2 years old? Join my group to share, learn and vent. www.cafemom.com/group/2undertwo

with our first, now 2.5 she was in a toddler bed at 16 months, and did just fine... however she often chooses to cosleep with us.  (strange, the nights i WANT to cuddle with her, she crawls into her bed... boo!)

with our second, now almost 17 months, she is in a toddler bed as well.  and sometimes cosleeps with us as well, she's more to herself most nights.... boo again!

we are closing on a house on 3/25 and when we move in, both girls will be in twin beds (they are bunk beds, but due to them being young still, we aren't bunking them... just putting them as two beds...)

we transitioned them by having them nap in their "big girl beds" for a few days... and letting them explore their beds during the day... after about 4 days it seemed to move along just great!

we havent had any issues... although, like i said, sometimes they cosleep with us...

OUR SON WENT TO A FUTON BED AT 13MONTHS, UNTIL WE GOT HIM A TODDLER BED. IT WAS IN HIS ROOM FOR AWHILE BUT HE DIDNT WANT TO SLEEP IN HIS ROOM. HE WOULD BRING A BLANKET AND HIS LITTLE PILLOW AND LAY ON OUR BEDROOM FLOOR IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT.SO WE JUST MOVED HIS BED TO OUR ROOM. AFTER WE PAINT AND DECORATE HIS ROOM, HE WILL BE IN A FULL SIZE BED. WE HAVE AN EXTRA MATTRESS THAT WE ARE GOING TO GET A BOXSPRING FOR AND LEAVE IT ON THE FLOOR UNTIL HE GETS ABOUT 4 OR 5 THEN WE ARE GOING TO PUT IT ON THE FRAME.BUT HE NEVER GAVE US A PROB. BUT HE DOESNT FALL ASLEEP ON HIS OWN EITHER. HE WILL LAY BY HIMSELF IN HIS BED BUT HAS TO WATCH HIS BEDTIME MOVIE.

My DD was in a toddler bed at 17 months and she did well! Now we are looking for a twin bed for her.

We will get my DS a bed at 15 months and get him use to it. It may take longer for him to adjust since he is so attached to me...lol

good luck! my oldest is a daddie's girl... and LOVES to sleep with us... or even just me.  my youngest is a mommie's girl... and she HATES sleeping with us! ha!  she's all about being in her own bed, or she'll start out in our bed and she'll get up, take her blankie and pillow and sleep on the floor!  i was SURE i was going to have issues getting her to sleep in her bed, but none! she's SO attached to me during the day, i can't go anywhere without her coming with (unless gma is around, then i'm chopped liver...) it's almost "nice" to have that break and time to snuggle with my daddie's girl!

My DS who is turning 3 this week went to a twin mattress on the floor at 13months. Once he got to be around 2, he was in an actual twin bed. He did very well with the transition.

My DD who just turned 2, switched from a crib to a twin bed 2 months ago. She did great with the transition too.

I think toddler beds are a waste of money.

With my babies, they are both still in toddler beds. They are 3 and 4 years old. I had absolutely no problems getting them to sleep in their toddler beds. It was as easy as it was to get them to sleep by themselves when they came home from the hospital.

We haven't done the twin beds yet. For my oldest, it wouldn't be an issue, but my youngest is still very clumsy and is also very short. She would have issues trying to climb into twin, and she still falls out the toddler bed at times (she moves a lot).

Bunk beds are something we are definitely going to be looking into very soon. We have twins coming in July, so we will be moving our 3 year old in with with sister so the twins will have a room (I don't co-sleep or co-room; like to promote independence; personal preferrence).

I won't be moving my daughter from her crib until she has started to learn to climb over hers. She's never attempted but once she's even attempting, we'll buy a toddler bed. If she never has the urge to tempt to crawl over her crib, I think we'll move her the Christmas before she turns 3.
