My poor baby, he's sick again. He spiked a small fever around 4 am last night, about 100.8 on the forehead. He nursed a lot after he woke up at 4, but I think the fever is coming down but he still feels really hot. At what point do we give tylenol? I heard that a fever is the body fighting something off. But when is the fever too high? Right now it isn't bad but just in case. He's congested again and has a really yukky nose. He was playing this morning though. I hate it when he's sick.
So we went to the doc this morning. Since his fever was 105.8 overnight we decided he needed to go in. When we went in his fever was 101.1, the doc didn't find anything wrong other then he's congested in his nose, not his lungs. He has some fluid behind his ears but no ear infections. She said the fever was alarming but that his lungs sound great, he looks great and does not have the flu. She said if the fever keeps up over 103 that we have to take him in right away in the morning on Monday. While we were there though, his fever went from 101.1 to 103.8, I think we were there about an hour and 15 minutes or so. They said we could give a larger dose of tylenol too. And then Motrin if needed. Like, right now, after the tylenol, he's playing.
I don't do Tylenol until 101. A doctor may tell you different though, I am one of those mommy's who does not like to use medicine though!! The fever is the body fighting something off. As long as he is nursing, I won't worry too much!! I hope he feels better soon!
i wont use tylenol until it hits 102. a fever IS a good thing, it means that their little bodies are fighting off whatever it is. babies also naturally run a degree higher then adults. Docs and hospitals generally dont even worry about it unless it is near 106 or above.
I only use Tylenol if she has an ear infection with her fever. Or if it gets too high and I always call her pediatrician to see what is "too high" for her age.

He got to 102 on tylenol. He won't nurse now, he just cries. He's been sleeping almost all day. He nursed at lunch when my husband brought him to me for lunch. That was at 2:30. He hasn't eaten since. My husband changed him when he got him home, about two hours ago, I just changed him and I'm not sure he was wet. He's still at 101.8 ish right now. He's in the bath tub with daddy, he's playing so he's happy at the moment but when I got home all he did was cry unitl I put him in the tub. He does have a tooth that I can see coming through but someone said that teething doesn't cause hi grade fevers which she said was anything over 101. I don't know what's causing it but I hope it breaks tonight. He is supposed to have a sitter tomorrow, I have to work and so does dad. I really thought that a dose of tylenol would take care of it.
His fever was at least held at bay with tylenol until bed time at which point it went up. At 1 am he woke up screaming to a 105.8 fever. I sat with him for an hour in a warm bath where he nursed and slept in the water, after the hour it was down to 100.8. This morning (6 am) it's back to 102.8. I'm not sure what is causing the fever. I thought, when it was low that it was teething, I can see a tooth coming in on the top. It's almost through but with his fever getting so high, it probably isn't teething. We may have to take him to the doctor, his grandma is a nurse and I'm hoping to reach her this morning before she goes to her seminar. I feel horrible for the little guy but when he's on tyelonal and awake, he's playing and reletively happy. As long as we keep it in check through out the day it stays down but at night it just climbs. I think that the visit to the beech tomorrow is going to have to get cancelled.
Wow! I hope alternating between Tylenol and Motrin helps keep his fever down!

Yeah, she didn't even say to alternate them unless he stil had a fever after two hours. It's been almost an hour fifteen and he is playing again and sitting and happy. His ear isn't red anymore, which it was when the fever was 103+. So, hopefully it's going to calm down some and let him be happy while his grandma is here for the last half of her vacation with us.
