Runny Nose ((HELP))

(((HELP)))

Caidey (9 months) has a runny nose... thick sticky snot... Mostly clear... a hint of pale green every now and then... You can hear it in her throat... No other symptoms...

She NEVER gets a stuffy/runny nose while teething - 8 teeth in so far - so that's not it.

The pollen is falling like crazy here... I'm thinking it's allergy issues; I know mine are bothering me !!

What can I do for her ??

I use the Saline drops. I suction her nose. I do not have a humidifier, and I can not get one until next week...

Is there something I can give her ??

Sorry I'm not sure. I would check with her pedi.

Take her to the doctor, obviously.

There is a bath add in that helps sooth babies with a cold.  Smells like vicks.  we have been using that lately because the whole family has been sharing a cold.  We have the humidifier running too.  Thats all I belive we can do this young.

The doctor won't typically give a little one anything for a cold.  A humidifier is your best bet.  Good luck...I hope she doesn't start feeling any worse.

i've been looking for stuff to give my boys besides just the saline drops, baby vicks and the humidifier and there are no meds out there for little ones...the youngest they have meds for is for 4 yr olds. i talked to the pediatrician with my boys and they said there's not much you can do, just gotta wait it out unless they get a fever and then some children's tylenol for the fever.

I would call your pedi, I don't know anything else besides what you are already doing. I hope your little one feels better.

I would get the johnson and johnson vapor bath, as was mentioned, it is very soothing, keep the humidifier going, and you can also give her benadryl or claritin, and even childrens zyrtec I believe, just check with her dr to make sure how much, because I know that none of them give doses for under 2. But my daughter is a very snotty nosed little girl! Has been for most of her life (she is 16 months). She used to cough a lot too because if the runny nose, its called post nasal drip. But I know that for her I give her 3/4 tsp. of benadryl or claritin, and she is about 23 lbs. Just check with the dr again. But the benadryl works great for her, better than the claratin, I just try to give it to her later in the day since it makes her drowsy. I hope it gets better!!!

If your little one is having issues other than just the runny nose, I would check with the doc to rule out anything else being wrong.  If it's just a runny nose, there's not much they can do.  You can continue to use the saline drops (I wouldn't do it too often because it can actually make it worse by irritating the nasal lining) and sit with her in a steamy bathroom.  Maybe try having the crib mattress on a slight incline (put something under the mattress to elevate one end) or let her sleep in a swing or something.  I wouldn't use an infant car seat since I've read that can be dangerous because of the chance of them breathing in their own carbon dioxide.

WOW... Why didn't I think of that ?? eye rolling

Give me a break... I always seek medical advice FIRST.

Caidey's Pedi said that as long as there are no other symptoms, and the mucus is clear... then it's probably just allergies.

I was just hoping maybe someone had some "Mommy's Home Remedies" type suggestions...

You can't give Benadryl or Claritin to a 9 month old! You're not suppossed to give them to any child under 2 whatsoever and between 2-4 only under a dr's supervision.
