DS doesn't really like cows milk (we BF), so he only gets milk on his bowl of cheerios and sometimes I make his cereal with almond milk. But I
would continue whole milk until your doc says to change to 2% or whatever, depending on the child's weight.

My Healhty Beginnings mentor recently told me that I could switch from whole milk now that my son is two....and he can have whatever milk I like to drink (skim).  She said that because most of the brain connections that depend on a fattier diet have already been made so that extra fat is no longer essential to his brain development.

I'm happy I don't have to buy two kinds of milk now!  :o)

I was adament about my oldest being on it until 5, he rarely had any milk that was less than whole until then. My 2 1/2 yr old still drinks whole but has had less a couple times like at his aunt's or dad's house. and my 1 1/2 yr old is still 99% whole milk, Since WIC doesn't cover whole milk after age 2 I turn the 1 % into whole milk by using heavy whipping cream. Take 1 cup out of gallon of milk and pour in 1 cup of cream. I did a taste test of it compared to whole milk and it tastes exactly the same. :)
