I used soy butter when I was dairy free while my dairy sensitive daughter was nursing.  Be careful though as some soy products contain whey protein which can cause the same issue as dairy.  You can do an oil spread too... but again, read ingredients carefully!

i have been put on a dairy free diet by my DDs GI specialist. to see if it is a milk allergy she has

Earth Balance soy free spread, it's dairy and soy free and actually good.
