Hi ladies I hope someone can give me some insight on this. When my son took his hearing test when he was first born (August 2nd) they told me that he failed the left side. The said it was common and its usually because of amniotic fluid in the ear and they scheduled a retest. Well we went yesterday (to the hospital) and he still failed on the left side. Now they are sending us to have it
repeated at his pediatricians office. I'm getting worried that my baby can't hear out of his left ear and I can't help but wondering if its my fault...maybe I sould have eaten more healthier or maybe I should have taken my prenatals and iron more often. I just feel like its my fault. Have any of you had a child fail the hearing test in the beginning and have the results change for the better later on????

My son (10 days old) failed in his right ear.  He goes Friday to the ped to have it rechecked.  I feel like it is my fault too.  Sorry I am no help but I hope it works out for him.  I heard it is common.

I know a lady in our due date group had her son fail several times but finally he passed in both ears. Her name is TexasKaty if you want to PM her and ask her about it. Rest easy until you have soemthing to worry about. I don't think there is anything you could have done to affect his hearing. CHin up momma!

My daughter failed her hearing tests at the hospital, and a few times at the specialists. Finally she started passing them at about 3-4 wks old.It just took the extra fluid in her ear a while to clear. She's almost 5 and can hear a whisper in the next room, lol.

My daughter went through this failing first one side, then the other for a few months and then around 4-6 months both ears were fine and had no issues since. We went in and got her retested 2-3 times after birth

I'm sorry, my son passed both ears. But I am techinally deaf in my left ear, but the little bone in my ear vibrates like the ear drum so I can still hear out of it. I just can't hear if someone whispers in that ear. Sorry that is ot, but I hope everything turns out just fine! and it's not your fault, trust me (((hugs)))
