If you are talking about leaving the house for a little while, I would have to say, "What have you been doing all day while I have been at work." In this case, I would leave the chldren and let him try to get things done around the house while I go somewhere for several hours.
If you are talking about separating or getting a possible divorce, it would have to be that he had/was having an affair.
