:) I would love it if I didn't, but I know a lot of people disagree with me so I'm letting them bash away if they want, or ask me questions if they are confused. I think a lot of people don't understand the benefits, and think it's this horrible ordeal that's going to scar your children.

They slept most of the time for about the first 3 weeks or so. Once I could keep them up more, I started reversing their night and days. That took a week or so. So, it started actually working at about 1 month.
not sure about your situation, I have a friend in the same boat. The longer you have them in your room and/or let them co-sleep, the harder it's going to be. Even if they are in the same room, if you can handle sleeping through a little crying, it may work. With mine when I was removing their night feeding, the first night they cried for about 1/2 hour. The next night they woke up, I put the passy in and patted them for a couple moments, then they went back to sleep, and after that we had no problems. But they were a lot younger than 18 months, too.
