If you don't feed your baby rice cereal then what do you feed them as their first solids? At what age?

8 months usually for us. I introduce them to pureed fruits and veggies. :)

Rice cereal tended to make both my kids constipated. They did much better with barley. We didn't introduce solids until.after 6 months.

For my first, it was a green bean and he was about 7.5 months.   My second... I think it was avocado... and he was about 8 months.    Really just whatever we happen to be having with dinner that is appropriate when they decide they're ready!   :)

1 mom liked this

I fed my daughter banana as her first solid at 4 1/2 months

I since then learned about baby led solids so did that with my son.

First solid for him was also banana at 7 mths old... then avacado.

Her first food was yogurt at 6 months. Then came mashed potatoes, pears and mashed bananas

We started solid food around 8 months as well. Started off with sweet potatoes, pears, peaches and peas. Never did the rice/oat cereals until he was over a year. Now he eats oatmeal every day, but the real cooked oats variety.

REAL food.  no purees.  Erins first foods were avocado rolled in cheerio dust.....steamed asparagus.....steamed green beans.......cooked apples.............yogurt......shredded cheese.... cooled red beans and rice pressed into oblong shape.....really ripe pear strips ETC  She started eating about 7.5 months old.  We wait until the child can sit unassisted....has lost the tongue thrust reflex and can pick the food up.

We did the same with our daughter. Our 3 month old will do the same. We gave our DD avocado first, but had never heard of rolling in cheerio dust. That will definitely help with the slippery aspect. Thanks momma! I'm stealing your idea! ;-)
