Questions for moms with Mirena

I have an appointment next week to switch birth control, and i have decided on getting Mirena. I know everyone's experience is different, but if you don't mind, i am curious about yours... How long have you had yours? Did you get yours inserted during your menstrual cycle? Has your significant other ever felt the threads during intercourse? Were you advised to check your threads? If so, how often? What are your side effects? If any.

Anything you'd like to answer or add, feel free to. Thanks a lot!!

I hear a mix of good & bad for both, lol. I chose not to go with Paragard because i already have a heavy flow and intense cramping during my cycles, and supposedly it can worsen. I'll just have to see for myself how my body handles Mirena :-]

I don't like it at all. My periods are weird. They come at random times during the month-never at the same time. Most of it is blood clots, they're normal flow for a day or two and then it's gone for a few days and comes back spotting, so I have tons of messed up undies. My cramps aren't like normal cramps, they're like I can feel the thing in there. I'm super moody, everything makes me cry. My SO felt them a couple times we had sex and my dr cut the string a little and it's fine for him now. I've had it for a little less than a year and I've been hoping it's gonna get better, but it hasn't. My dr told me to check it after every period and it wasn't inserted during a period. I didn't know they could do that. I bled for forever after I got it and she gave me bc pills to stop the bleeding.

Everyone is different, like you said, so I'm not trying to talk you out of it-I just don't like mine. And she has checked it on a few occasions and it's in there right. If you don't like it, you can always get it taken out. Gl!

I got it at my 6week check up, after having my baby, & honestly I was nervous about it being painful, but I didnt even feel it. Now when you get up youll notice its there, but I was fine. At 1st my hubby felt it, but after a while we stopped noticing it. I did get a few mood swings at 1st but maybe it was the fact that I was a new mommy adjusting? I had an irregular period maybe 2months thats it, my periods are now very minimal now. I love it ! I dont even feel it anymore.
