so my ds has been on baby food for a month now, his is 6 months old. ive been using the stage 2 gerber containers, and using half of it and mixing it with oatmeal, then giving a 6oz bottle after. hes eating the food 3x daily.
im jw, when should i feed the whole container? of course i dont want to over feed him. suggestions?
My DD is just now starting on stage 2 meat {today was her first, actually}. She took 1/4 jar of the chicken. She also had a half a pack of bananas and about 3 baby spoons of green beans along with it, otherwise she probably would have eaten more of the meat. However, when she just has one thing, she usually takes about a half a pack of it and then is done. I would go by when your son gets fussy telling you that he is done eating the baby food for the most part, don't force more etc. etc...
My niece was taking a whole jar of baby food around 5-6 months. My DD is completely different as I had to start her late on baby food and rice etc. because we had some trouble figuring out which formula would work best with her, ended up having to switch to soy altogether. So that delayed other foods for a while. My niece was just fine with the first formula she was on so she was started a lot earlier than my DD was on other foods.
My brother, at 3-4 months of age, was eating about 300 jars of baby food per month. He hardly drank formula as he didn't want it and he was starving with just the formula. Every baby is different. I'd just go with what your baby wants as far as how much baby food to give them, just make sure you're letting him get a few drinks of formula or breastmilk whichever you use in between every few bites. I let my DD have 1/2 oz to an ounce after about 5-8 baby spoons of food, depending on how she is acting with it.
Babies are good at self control, unlike us sometimes! When they turn their head or are easily distracted, theyre done. They eat when theyre hungry and stop when they are full. They dont eat because they are sad or depressed, thats mom after a crappy day. Give me a bunch of chocolate and a glass of wine, and a little peace, i can dream!
