She needs to be backward until atleast 1 but its best to leave her backwards until 2.

We switched our DD around probably 5 or 6 months to a "convertable" car seat, it allowed us to keep her backwards a little bit longer and give her more space. We switched her to forward sitting at about 8 months or so, she was super squished sitting backwards

Thanks... I will have to check those convertable car seats out for sure!

What kind of carseat do you have now? You can switch to a convertible any time if you have an infant carrier. I had to switch my son to one when he was 4 months old. He is rear facing in a Cosco Scenera at 2 years old right now. If you are looking for a seat that you can rear face in until 3 or 4 I would not get a Scenera.

I would get the True Fit Premier or the Graco My Ride 65. I hate infant seats so as soon as my son hit 8 pounds, we moved him to a convertible seat.

We switched to a convertible seat at 8 months because dd was so long. She loved it and we were able to keep her rear facing longer that way. She didn't hit the 20 pound weight limit until 13-14 months but was very long. We just turned her around yesterday and she is 17 months so we were able to keep her rear facing comfortably a lot longer in the convertible and forward facing it will still last for a long time.

You do realize that it is illegal to switch before age one AND 20 pound, not to mention extremely dangerous?

You can switch any time, just make sure it's a convertible seat so she can still be rear facing.

We just got a Graco My Ride 65 for my monster who had outgrown the cheap convertible seat that could "only" rear face to 30 pounds. I totally love it and wish I'd gotten one for my older children.
