How would you help this mom?

"My pediatrician, my mom, even my baby books all tell me something different about when to start solids."

When should a baby start eating food and what should their first food be?

My kids started on solid food when they could pick it up and feed themselves. That was between 7-10 months.

No cereals or purees for my kids. They started on whatever we were eating... Avocado, baked salmon, sweet potatoes, ground turkey or chicken, steamed vegetables, edamame beans etc.

After 6 months, and whatever real food you'd like to offer them.

Whenever they start to show clear signs that they are ready. Most of the time, that's around 6 months.

We don't introduce solid foods until around six months and we start with banana. Avocado is also a great first food.

Mostly right around 3-4 months. WITH ped's approval of course. Most of the time we had to introduce cereal, then around 4 months we started baby food... It really just depends on how comfortable you are as the parent, and how comfortable your pediatrician is with it. I trust my ped with my children's life! She has never steere'd me wrong yet.
