This this this!

First - I am disgusted that a doctor would tell someone to screw with powdered formula balance. You seriously need to find a new doctor asap.
Second - our kids only get what we give them. If you give in to the screaming you are teaching her that if she screams long enough she'll get what she wants. This is really not something you want her (or you) to get in the habit of. YOU must win EVERY battle of wills. You have to show her that you will outlast het stubborness. Only off her formula to drink. She does not need juice, and really it has a lot of sugar in it (I gave my first a lot of juice thinking it was healthy, but babies really don't need it). After she gets used to drinking formula again you can always offer het a little water. If that's all kids get it's all they need and all they want.
I really wish you good luck and remember, stick to your guns! You'll thank yourself later :)

Your mistake was giving her the juice in the first place  :)  It tastes WAY better than formula, so of course she prefers it. . . . No worries, you're the mommy, and she can't have juice unless you give it to her (I'm assuming that at 6 months, she can't open the fridge and pour herself a glass).  So stop giving her juice.  Will she be pissy?  Absolutely!  But she'll get over it when she's hungry and there's no other option but her bottle of formule  :D

As for a Dr who tells you to water down a baby's formula - fire him immediately.  Formula may be imperfect, but upsetting the balance of nutrients even more by watering it down can only cause harm.  He should know better.

Yes, really, better ideas. Baby won't take formula because she keeps getting juice. She keeps getting juice because of constipation issues. Fix the source of the constipation, stop giving juice, offer formula only. . . Baby has no choice but to drink formula rather than wait for juice, baby will not starve herself, and after being plenty pissy, WILL take formula. AND, problem causing the constipation is fixed rather than always treating the symptom of what OP has said is an ongoing problem.

Quoting fatcat0908:

Really, better ideas? Let's see, this baby WON'T drink anything but juice. Maybe you are smart enough to know the reprocussions of how quickly a malnourished infant circles the drain. She can't get her baby to take formula, a quarter serving of strawberry quick weaned gradually over time is not a death sentence nor nearly as toxic as you and your buddy are making it out to be. Do you realize how insane you seem? You'd swear I said to give the kid a fifth if Jack in her bottle.

Quoting TiffanyMarie80:

You DID suggest that OP give her 6 month old Strawberry quick in her formula. . . . No matter how low in sugar or sugar free it claims to be, there's nothing healthy about that - as a treat for older kids and adults, it's one thing, but as a regular addition to a baby's bottle??  There are better ideas for helping a baby get over constipation and drinking her bottles without fuss, and I trust you are indeed smart enough to know that  :)

Quoting fatcat0908:

Oh no, she implied quite clearly that she thought I was dumb.

Just because she chooses to do something you don't agree with, doesn't mean you can put her down or bash her for it! So she gives her baby juice, great!!!! If you don't like it don't reply!!! Geez!!!! Oh and to the original poster, if she gets that constipated try warm juice is works best.

Or the baby can starve during the hunger strike, become obstructed from not popping while mom ignores TWO doctors because CafeMom told her so and suffer the reprocussions of needing to be artificially nourished and having her bowels manually extracted. Yep, and its the artificial powdered flavor enhancer that's bad. Wow!

You have taken a run of the mill stubborn baby and turned it into a worse case scenario. . . Baby does not go from healthy to malnourished overnight, and if she were headed that direction it would be a different story.
Speaking of these alllllll knowing Drs, are you referring to the guy who suggested she water down the formula? Because if any suggestions are going to lead to malnourishment, that is it.

I read a lot of post here and hope one works for you. I would do a small amount of prune juiceif it were my baby but only if she takes the milk. I wouldn't sub anything with milk esp since baby is 6months. Good luck!

Btw if you trust your baby's dr why are you asking for help IJS

I am sure that the cause of the constipation IS the formula. Formula causes constipation, that is why they used to put corn syrup in it. OP, I am in no way suggesting corn syrup, please don't misunderstand, it is horrible for babies. Maybe u could look into getting a little human donar milk? Human milk is a natural laxative.

I would stop giving her juice since it seems to be replacing the formula. She will get thirsty, and if formula is her only option, she will drink it. Try just giving peaches or prune purée for the constipation. Or, if that doesn't work, a small amount of ice cold apple juice but only after a bottle of formula.

For the constipation, put a little prune juice in with the formula. You CAN'T change the water-to-formula ratio with powder. It will make the baby sick.

I wouldn't mess with the formula ratio. Your daughter will not starve herself. If you're worried about her having too much, just don't give her any. I know that sounds cruel, but at this age you're making some of the most important decisions for her that will affect the rest of her life.
The other option is to continue with formula, but water that juice down so much that it's pretty much all water. Eventually, it won't be such a big deal.
I agree with finding a new pediatrician. The guidelines on the formula can are regulated so that baby doesn't end up sick. Remember that she's not going to starve herself. It might take her a little longer than normal to agree to the formula, but eventually, she will. Hang in there.
