Many questions from a first time mom

First question: My 2month old is acting like he is teething. He is biting me and his pacifier. What do I do?

Second question: I'm breastfeeding and don't have time to pump. Will my milk come in by him just feeding alone, or do I need to work hard in making room for pumping too?

Third question: How do you clip your babies toe nails?

Fourth question: Is Gripe Water better than Mylicon?

Just a few questions, heh. Can anyone answer these for me? So far, we've been doing good. Though, these are just some questions that linger around in my mind. Also, about the breastfeeding question. My doctor said to eat oatmeal to bring in my milk? What's y'all take on that?

Teething - take a baby washcoth, wet it and put it in a circle shape and freeze it/or put it in the fridge...give to baby...you'll likely have to hold it for him.

By two months your milk should be in. If the dr is happy with his growth than you are fine. When you might want to pump is at night when the baby does a long stretch at night, or if you are stockpiling for a bottle here or there.

Yes, oatmeal is a great way to help keep your supply up. I've been eating it every day for almost a year now :). Another one is aspagus root which was recommended to me by a lacation consultant. There are a number of teas out there that you can use. Eat healthy, drink lots of water. Keep an eye out on herbs as some of these can dry you up...like I believe sage is one of those that can decrease supply.

If you are worried about supply...weigh the baby before and after a feed to determine how much he is getting per feed. Add it up over a 24 hour period and see if that is the number of ounces he should be drinking. You need to do 24 hours total as some feeds are more and others less.

Toe nails...very very carefully. I have a very small clipper.

I tried both gripe water and mylicon....each baby is different. I think mylicon but others will say gripe water...and you can make gripe water yourself I believe.Try both....but make sure you do it after every feed.

Good luck!

For teething you can use cold teething rings, hylands teething tablets (unless i'm mistaken, i never used them with an infant that young)

I don't know too much about breastfeeding, but by 2 months your milk should already be in.

Very carefully, heck even while they are sleeping at that age!

I have no experience with either one :)

1. Babies explore the world through their mouths at this age, your LO probably isn't teething (its possible, but very rare to geet teeth this early) but is just learning and experiencing the world in the best way he knows how. Let him chew on safe things with different textures to satisfy his curiosity. My DD loved her Sophie the Giraffe toy for biting on and also liked chewing on fabric books and those connector rings every child has.

2. You don't need to pump if your baby's growth is good, your baby tells your body how much milk to produce by how oftwn and how long he nurses so your body will make more milk as he needs more, as long as you are feeding him on demand. If you are away from him for more than a few hours you may need to pump. And if you think your supply is low try fenugreek herbal supplements.

3. Clip toe nails while they are sleeping, its much easier. Clip them straight across
To avoid ingrown nails.

4. Whatever works best for your baby.

I say gripe water. It worked wonders for my son for gas and constipation. It's more natural than gas drops.

@ Angela: How did you pull that off? Not using any gripe water or mylicon? o.o

Everyone has been very helpful! Thank you. ^.^

We tried mylicon once and it didn't seem to help so we never used it again.  We never used Gripe water.

Try using nail scissors on baby's nails.  You are less likely to catch their skin.  And definitely try and do it while baby is sleeping.

Teething - frozen teething rings and frozen washcloths work great.
Breastfeeding- what makes you think at 2 months your "milk hasn't come in?" If your milk never came in and you weren't giving formula, baby would've starved a long time ago! If baby is having atleast 6 wet/dirty diapers in 24 hrs (poopy counts as 2), your milk supply is perfect.
Toe nails- never had a problem clipping them, tho it did take a good few months after she was born for them to actually be long enough to clip.
Gripe water vs mylicon - only ever used gripe water, so not much help here. Is baby having issues?

Your milk should be in by now. Lind of a "supply and demand" thing. I only pump while at work or when someone else wanted to feed. If your supply is low fenugreek and blessed thistle work wonders.

Frozen wash cloth for teething.

Mylicon was what i preferred.

Nails...with my older son i bit hos nails lol. With my baby i wait until he's asleep.
