No! I won't leave my three week old son unattended at the front of the store! UPDATE ADDED!
Do other stores do this?! Is this a new rule or something?!
UPDATE
For those that are understanding why I was pissed, Thank you! For those not understnading, thanks for your opinion but I would rather not make more work for myself. Not that it's any of your business but I will tell you why I prefer to use my stroller. I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis in my lower back 5 years ago. I am in pain every single day and do not do things to add to it. Yes, I can hold my son and do what I need to do for him, but it is painful and holding him through the store while getting what I need to get would not be safe and more work for me.
I understand the whole loss prevention thing which is why I would have been ok with being followed through the store or even having my stroller and diaper bag searched after I was done shopping. (Didn't carry my purse today, if I did, they could have searched that too!) I have nothing to hide because I don't steal and am not gonna risk my freedom for some bullsh*t!
Even if I did take my son out, I am not leaving anything of mine unattended while shopping ever! They also need a sign posted saying this is a store policy so I know to take my business elsewhere.

Why didn't you just carry him with one arm and push the shopping cart with the other? Or put his infant carrier inside the cart? Or wear him?
It's kind of silly to take a stroller some where that isn't the zoo or park if you only have one child in it.
I always take my stroller when I walk places in town. I used to walk everywhere with my oldest since I didn't have a car so his stroller went in to all the stores with me and I never had an issue.
Sadly, it isn't the quality of the merchandise that makes a store likely for theft. It is location and the quality of the customers.

Yeah, cuz family dollar has SUCH nice stuff... lol. I'd be more worried of somebody taking off with my stroller! Idk momma, I use a carrier more often than a stroller, but I could see how that would be a problem if you're getting a lot of stuff.
I use an umbrella stroller for the store - it has no undercarriage and no storage space so they can see I'm not using it as a theft device.
Maybe try using an umbrella stroller next time, or do you have a carseat that could fit inside the cart (not on top, but where the groceries go? I used to do that.)
its almost funny (in an ironic way) that you can go into any store at the mall with a stroller and not have to leave it at the front, but the DOLLAR STORE is on the hunt for thieves. i am sure there are plenty of sticky fingered people who go there, and i used to work in retail and i get that some people will use their kids as a cover to steal, BUT unless it was super busy, they could have easily assisted her in getting her items, and like the op pointed out, if they have a store policy of no strollers (back packs, purses, luggage etc) they should post it in plain sight.

I'm sorry but get over it. They didn't ask you to leave your son there, only that you didn't take the stroller in with you. And they aren't going to escort you because that would take more staff. And in turn make prices go up for the customer. Take a blanket, lie it in the little kid seating area of the cart and make a 'bed' for your baby to rest in while you shop. Half the time, my son chose to lie down in the top part of the cart. Even when he had turned 1

I went into Family Dollar, been shopping here for almost two years. I walked in and they told me to leave my stroller at the front of the store! NO! I am not doing that! Before anyone says just take him out the stoller, they didn't know what I was coming in there to get and would have been imposssible to hold my son and grab the many items I needed to get! So I said I am not doing that and walked out!

so you are saying she should leave her stroller at the front of the store... a store that apparently has a theft problem and probably wont be watching to make sure no one takes off with it (cause that would require more staff as you pointed out) and THEN she is to lay her baby in the cart part, and THEN pile items around the baby as she shops....
yeah sounds super simple.
regardless of what solutions people have for her: a store policy that requires people to leave pesonal property at the front of the store before shopping should be posted. if her items were stolen (its apparent they dont have security cameras) from the store, who would be responsible for replacing it? the employee? the customer? the company?
honestly, strollers are for taking kids along with you and being fairly hands free. its not lazy, and maybe some of you are endurance champs.. KUDOS TO YOU. i use a stroller, i bought it to use it and i wouldnt have left it in the front either!
