Need some help please! Underweight 6 month old

Ok so my problem is that my 6 month old daughter is underweight. She has severe reflux which landed her in the hospital on a feeding tube for 5 days when she was 2 months old. She also has a dairy allergy and is on neocate formula. She just hit 12 lbs but is 50th percentile for height and head. She is VERY smart and active. Not behind at all. I can not get her to eat more then 2-3 ounces a feeding and usually only 15 total a day. I have tried everything and now doc has me making formula with more calories. I feel terrible because she has no interest in eating and the docs are telling me if she isn't eating better soon they want to put her on reglan and another med to stimulate appetite. She already had a stomach emptying scan and it came back normal. I am so against reglan because I have read a lot of bad things about it. I feel helpless and sad because I do not want my baby on those meds and she over all is such a happy baby. Anyone else have similar problems? Did you use reglan?

It does NOT have milk in it but milk protein.

She can't have milk for her allergy but just like my daughter she also can't have milk protein because it upset her gerd badly.

Hello, my name is Lauren I have a 7 month old daughter who is currently in the hospital for the same thing. She has gerd, reactive air way diease, sleep apemnea, and trechea and larnx meleasea . She only eats about 15 ounces a day about 2 through 3 a day. They are wanting to put her on a feeding tube but I have said no because she hasn't lost any weight just isn't gaining. My daughter is very smart and active as well she looks healthy just tiny. They just found out she hasroblems which her thyroid. Have they checked that with your dd? Also pm any time, also DO NOT do anything the doctor dosent say to do. If that isn't obvious lol. Dose she take any baby food? My daughter is now on Alimentum 28 cal with cereal added and eat baby food 3 times daily. This way if I get get her to eat 20 oz withe her 3 jars of baby food we are golden:) it has not happened yet but we are working on it. My daughter is practicly the same, no milk protein ect.. But she dosent have the allergy. Has your daughter lost weight? My dd has never lost weight but is under 2% on the growth chart but is above 75% for her head and height

I am so afraid they will put her back on the tube and send her home with it because they almost did that once before. One day last week I got her to take 20 ounces of formula and I was so happy but haven't been able to do it since. She was in the negatives for her weight but last week was in the 1st percentile. No they haven't checked her thyroid or anything. She just seems full and doesn't want to take more. My mom says I was the same exact way when I was her age but I can't help but feel terrible when the doctors keep calling me telling me to get her to eat more and I am trying so hard because I don't want her to be put on those meds:(

You are defiantly not a bad parent! I know how hard it is I usually only give my daughter half a jar of baby food but the thing is she likes it so I let her eat a whole jar :( I felt sooo guilty but she ate something had food in her belly calories to absorb. It sucks Haveing a baby who won't eat but think like this it isn't because she dosent want to its because it hurts :( I had reflux when I was prego I hated eating it hurt sooo bad

To me she seems perfectly healthy other then not eating what they want her to eat. She is SUPER smart and very active. She never stays still she is always rolling around and kicking and trying to crawl or jumping in your lap. She is so happy and laughing all the time so it makes me very sad to think about putting those harsh medicines in my babies body. It literally makes me cry because I feel helpless. I read online how bad those meds are for babies and I am not ok with that going into my childs body.

I don't see the weight problem.  It's recommended that babies double their birth weight around 6 months.  She was born small and has doubled her birth weight.  If she's happy, healthy, and meeting milestones then she's fine.

how much did she weigh when she was born, how much is she gaining per week average?

my oldest took reglan, it did nothing to stimulat her appetite, we still fought with her to get 20oz of formula a day in her, but she did gain well on that.

have they done an endoscope and biopsy of the esophagus to see that there is no current damage or that there is no inflamation that is still causing the aversion? (have a friend with a child whom they have discovered at 13 months old is allergic to like 9 different things and after removing them all he's gained 2.5 pounds in a month)

does your baby eat anything other than the formula?  Are you using a cereal that has no soy or dairy in it? does your baby take any sort of reflux medicines at all? (pepcid, zantac, zegerid, etc?)

She weighted 5 lb 10 oz when born. They did a stomach emptying scan and xrays on her to see if her bowels were blocked but everything was normal but it did show severe reflux. She did have a burn in her esophagus at 2 months that's why she was on the feeding tube so she was on like 3 meds to heal that and coat her throat so she could eat. She is on prevacid now twice a day. She is on no soy and no dairy. If I do use cereal I only use beech nut which is soy free. I try to get her to take baby food to get any calories in her I can and she usually just keeps her mouth real tight. She will eat carrots but it is something I turn to last since it has like no calories in it so now I am putting a few spoonfuls of a high calorie food in her bottle to flavor it and add calories. She seems to eat it better this way. She will just hit the 2 ounce mark in the bottle and start turning her head and sitting up so I can't feed her. I just had to fight to get her to take 3 ounces this morning and had to trick her with the last half ounce by mixing it in a bowl with cereal and sweet potatos and it took forever to get her to take that because she had no interest in it. I feel like a bad parent but I am doing everything I can to try to get her to eat. She just seems full and doesn't want more.

I would suggest checking her thyroids probably isn't a problem but it is better to be safe. And I know they told me they we going to do the tube in the nose and if it worked they were going to do the surgery for the permant tube :( I said no after talking to my parents, because she hasn't lost weight just won't eat a lot. :( I feel horrible sometimes when I can put her in a new born onesie, but I try so hard every day and I can't push her to eat because of the reflux. It hurts her so bad sometimes she crys when you try to give her a bottle.

I know. :( my daughter is the exact way it breaks everyone's heart even the doctors because she always smiles at you even after she got her iv in or got her blood taken. It is very sad I cry at night when she goes to sleep because this sucks sooo bad, my happy baby isn't eating right :(

bananas and avocados are very nutritionally dense foods. Some doctors advise mixing a small amount of olive oil into the foods to add fat and calories.

That is exactly how I feel that she is fine but the doctors think other wise.

well, at 6 months they should double their birth weight...that would be 11lbs6oz, if she's over that and is gaining but slowly then I would just keep working with what you are.

are you working with a specialist?  a PEDIATRIC gi, nutrition and allergy specialist team? that makes a load of difference.

do you really wait the 30 minutes you are supposed to on the prevacid?  are you using solutabs?
