Car seat disposal

I can't believe I don't know this, but how do you go about disposing of a car seat that was in an accident? I know to cut the straps, but is there anywhere I can take it besides the dump? I'm kind of really into recycling so the thought of that makes me cringe ;)

I've always heard cut straps, destroy cover, smash shell with a hammer. Throw it away or call your local recycling company.

I don't know. When my daughter's carseat expired I just cut the straps & wrote in permanent marker "DO NOT USE. EXPIRED" all over it then threw it in the dumpster. Maybe call your local recycling center & see if they take them for the plastic.

1 mom liked this

Cut the straps and the cover. Smash the seat with a sledgehammer and try to find somewhere that recycles them.

Cut the straps, crack the shell and make it small enough to put in your recycling bin.

Here we have GIANT recycling bins and we don't have to sort them.

Same thing as one that's been in an accident. You can give or sell the car seat cover (the fabric part) but the straps should be cut and the shell should be cracked with a sledge hammer and thrown in the recycling bin.
