Starting solids

My baby will be 6 mo on the 17th. I'm planning to let her start trying solids at that point. I was thinking of not doing the store bought purees this time (I did those with my first) but have no idea what to give instead. Should I make my own purees or try things like bananas and mashed potatoes? I'm starting to let her try the mesh feeder with bm ice cubes. Help! :)

Steam up some veggies and fruits, cut them or mash them into small pieces, and let her have at it! Google "baby led solids", so much healthier and easier. :)

Do what works for baby and you whether that is making purees or just giving baby soft foods-avacado, banana, sweet potato that she can manage without them being pureed.

If you want to spoon feed, you can do things like bake a sweet potato, fork mash and feed... or fork mash a banana or avocado.

If you want to start with self-feeding, you can start with really any veggie, steam it and put it on her tray.   We usually just let them have something that we were having on that particular night and then waited a few days before giving something else.

I make most of my son's food. I bake sweet potatos, squash, and boil the carrots. I throw it in the blender and puree it that way and add little by little his formula or i add the hot boiled water from the carrots. 1 squash made 12 jars, 2 sweet potatoes made 16 jars and a bag of organic carrots made 18 jars. I freeze about half of it for later. I love making his food cuz i feel like i'm doing something good for him. I'm learning little bit at a time on what i can make, like the other stuff i buy in jars. Except applesauce i buy the big jars cause that goes a lot longer ways and it's cheaper!

Just steam some veggies and mash them up (we started with yellow squash) bananas and avacodos also make great first foods.

Steam veggies and mash them up, and soft fruits.
