Can we start to work out? I can not wait six weeks! Everytime I nurse the baby I eat and this appetite is so annoying! I would like to at least start fast walking. I should add that I didnt have any complications and a vaginal birth.

You NEED to wait at least 6 weeks to  let yourself heal properly. Think about it this way though by nursing you are working off everything you eat so I wouldn't worry so much about it. If you insist on doing something I would start out slowly, VERY slowly. Trust me if you over do it you will regret it.

I would say when you are comfortable to work out but take it slowly and work yourself up. I had no motivation to work out after having my son plus it was fall/winter time and I just started working out a month ago and my son is now 6 months old. And the first few times I worked out I was hurting the next few days. For work outs I walk with my son for 3-4 miles and I do Jillian Michaels revolution workouts, those kill!!! She'll put you in pain! lol

Wait the 6 Weeks, it is very important. What got my attention was my discharge nurse told me she has had several women come back in because their uterus fell out of their body. Your usterus muscles are so stretched and weak. Some women were exercising too early, one was having sex too early, one was washing her shower wall... I don't know about you, but I knew at that moment that I was not going to risk it.
it actually happened to my grandma as well.

You k now your body. I wonder how many women back in the day waited 6 weeks before getting back to chores, work, and taking care of their families? I was better pretty much in a week of both my kids. I wrapped my belly and my bleeding stopped before I even left the hospital.

If you feel up to it start with something light and move up. If  in the back of your mind you feel not ready then don't do it.

If you're breastfeeding, you're already doing quite the workout. That alone will shrink your uterus and abdomen and begin putting things back. I lost all of my baby weight Within the first month just laying in bed exclusively breastfeeding! (and I had gained over 40 lbs!)

Definitely wait the 6 weeks. You have a large open wound inside where the placenta detached and important things are healing. Now is not a good time to hurt something in there. There will be plenty of time to work out once you're cleared.

The problem with that logic is the women back then did not have the best health and their bodies often didn't fair well.

Also, it was customary in the old days for family to come live with you and take care of the cooking, cleaning, givin mom breaks, helping with teaching about breastfeeding, and taking the "midnight hour" duties so the mother could ease in to motherhood. They still practice this in many parts of the world for maternal health (we have one of the worst rates for maternal health, possibly because our culture is in the rush rush rush mindset.)
