It wasn't that severe, but ds didn't breathe for a min after his was born. It didn't take that long to get him going, just longer than most. He's 7 and perfectly fine.

My SIL had that happen as well. Her baby was full term though and she had pre eclampsia and something was wrong with the babys heart rate so they did an emergency c section. The baby wasnt breathing when he was born but soon recovered. Hes five now and autistic:(

I think it's mostly a wait and see thing.  I know full-term babies that were born with seemingly no issues and great apgars that have been diagnosed as having mild CP, I know full-term babies born with 0 apgars and NICU stays that are totally fine.  it's all a matter of what was effected and what wasn't, and you just won't know until later on.  My preemie was born at 34w0d due to pre-e/hellps, her heart rate fell and was immediately taken via forceps, her first apgar was a 3, her second was a 9, she's fine, and stayed in the step-down nursery for 5 days to gain weight and learn to control her body temp and get photo-therapy for jaundice...but you just won't know until later on how things are going to turn out.

It's a wait and see game and it sucks. My middle child was born at 36 weeks and you'd never know. My best friend just had an emergency csection at 32 weeks a week ago her ds is of course still in the hospital.

Is ur ds being followed by a pediatrician and therapist?? My ds was followed up until he was fifteen months to make sure he hit all his major milestones.

I was born between 28-30wks in 87 and I had under developed lungs and was on oxygen for a long time and I am fine.
