How much baby food or other foods does your 8 month old eat? How many times does she nurse or how much formula do they drink?

I ask because my sister thinks my dd should be eating more food. Her 7 month old eats 2 jars of baby food everyday and puffs and nurses 4 times a day. My 8 month old nurses 5-6 times a day and eats some food but not everyday and most the time when she eats it from my plate. She eats foods about 4-5 days a week.

When my 16 month old was 8 months, he would only eat a few bites a few times a week at dinner time. He didn't start wanting to regularly eat a couple of times a day until after his birthday.
He has always nursed on demand.

As long as you nurse baby on demand, you could feed NO solids before one. Baby only needs breastmilk til 1 (some studies suggest 18 months even)

Please don't limit nursing to specific times. If solids only come immediately after nursing and baby is choosing to nurse so little, it's fine, but normally a baby should nurse more like 8-12 times a day.

What your sister is doing is setting her baby up for nutritional deficiencies and early weaning. A baby only nursing 4 times per day should absolutely be getting supplemental formula bottles.

I always feed on demand. I dont always nurse before giving solids. I nurse before giving solids. Monica has never eaten more than like 6-7 times a day not even as a newborn.

My sister baby is on specail vitamins because her iron is to low. She says her baby doesnt want to nurse more than that and would rather have her solids.

Yeah the thing your sister needs to realize is that as the mom, SHE should be in charge, not baby. Much about being a good mom involves doing what's best for baby, not what they want. A 7 month old shouldn't be being given the option of solids if they aren't nursing well :-(

Anyway, you obviously can't change your sister's parenting, but you can definitely ignore her really bad advice! It amazes me that her kid needs special vitamins and she's trying to give advice in how you should fed a kid, smh.

My 9m 3w old son still get breastmilk only. I plan to offer solids 1-2 times a day after he nurses. I'm doing baby led solids and will nurse on demand until he's 2.
