I would start by joining cuties with cloth booties on here. It's a great place to start with a lot of great info and TON of great women to help you get going.
I personally use WAHM diapers and don't care much for the commercial brands. I have a mixture of AI2s, fitteds and pockets on my 11 month old.
I'm currently building my stash for my November baby and she'll be using the same types as above with the addition of some prefolds and covers.
You'd want your diapers, a wetbag for out and about, and a pail liner or wet bag to store the dirties at home. Another thing to consider is cloth wipes. It gets to be a pain remembering to throw disposable wipes out and not in with the cloth diaper.
Any specific questions? Hope I helped a litlte. :)

I just got some new Kawaii Baby diapers. I love them! Best ones I've used. they are pretty cheap too. From Theluvyourbaby.com
Mine are little flannel wipes that I bought off Etsy though I've seen many women say that baby wash clothes work just as well.
I use a little travel spray bottle (like you use for your hair or whatnot when traveling) in the diaper bag for out and about. At home, I use a spray bottle (like for your hair but non travel size). When I'm being lazy, I just put water in it. But I did buy litlte all natural soap bits from someone on Etsy that I can melt in the water to give it a soft fragrance.
At home, to store the wipes, I use an old plastic huggies wipe container and I fold the cloth wipes accordian style and they pop up through the lid just like disposables.
Then you just toss them into the diaper and into the wash with all the diapers. :)
Some people store the wipes dry and wet just what they need before using. Some store a few in a wet container so they are wet to begin with - though I believe you have to change them out every couple days to avoid mildew or something. I keep mine dry and just spray the wipes as I need them.
Hope that helps. :)

I'd been wondering about wipes. There are chemicals in some disposable wipes that can eat through foil, but I hadn't ever seem an alternative.

Yeah, like PP said, different diapers fit different. Different styles might be more your style than others. Another option, if you don't have a local place or person to see them in person is to purchase some diapers used. I also wouldn't purchase a ton of the same type until you see if it fits and works for you and your baby.
