Itchy breast while BF

I have a breastfeeding question. My left breast itches something fierce, but only on the right side near the areola. What could it be?

I have no idea. My breasts used to itch while nursing so I asked my doc. She didn't know either lol. She said it was just one if those things...

Yeah sorry. I got the same response from my doc, that and that it's probably due to change of hormones. On the nipples I recommend using lanolin, rest of the body....baby oil is your friend. Mine seemed to get a little better, or it was all in my head. But yeah, the itching was crazy in the beginning.

Mine did the same things for the first month or two. I think it's because of the letdown stretching the skin. Try moisturizing it well before feeding.

I agree with this. But don't use baby oil. I'd use coconut oil or something else that would be safe for your baby to nurse.

How old is your baby?

Have you ever dealt with thrush? That can sometimes cause itching. You could try painting your breasts with gentian violet before nursing your baby, and see if that helps. Once a day for 3 days should help :)

Would that be okay for the baby to ingest? It says 10% alcohol on ingredients.

I use nipple ointment.

Yup :) It's also used to treat thrush in babies' mouths. But it's a carcinogenic or whatever, so I've heard to only use it every three days. IDK for sure, though.

There are other ointments you can use. I used one called newmans ointment. It's got nystatin & a couple other things in it. Fixed the yeast & itching really quick!
