How much would you pay/charge for nanny/babysitter?

I just need opinions. I have been asked to watch a 7 month old little boy next week. I do not know this person, my cousin just referred me. I have never done any babysitting or anything for pay, so I do not know how much to charge. But I could really use the money, as I am a stay at home mom and I hate constantly asking my husband for spending money! I want it to be enough to be worth my while but I dont want to overcharge. I have a 3 month old son, so I will have him and the other 7 month old.

Anyway just wondering how much I should charge per hour. I need to do hourly because the mother is not on a set schedule and could be working anywhere from 3 to 10 hour shifts and she doesnt even know how many days she will need me yet. Could be 4-7. So...$8/hr? 10? No clue! Help? Thanks!!

When I use to baby sit as a teenager I used to get like 40$ for 2 hours. But the kids were older like 3 and 4. I would charge more for a newborn like 13$ if youy have to go to her house if she comes to you then I would do $10. but i have No idea either.

Love Always,

Angel

Idk I always just took what the parents could afford and decided to hand me. Sometimes it was way more than I expected sometimes I was disappointed. Just remember you are not a professional, you're doing someone a favor who can't really afford a pro.

When I watched a child while parents were at work, I charged $8 (school aged kids), $10 (5 and under). I would charge hourly unless it was a long shift. $30 for 4 hours, $60 for 8 hours, etc. If I was babysitting for a date night it was the standard hourly rate above. We pay our babysitter $8 per hour for date nights. Usually after an hour, our son is asleep and she has another hour or two to do whatever she likes while he sleeps. She is a family friend, though. My younger sister charges $11 an hour, while a friend of mine charges $6 an hour.
I like to give a break to someone if I'm watching their child while they work. I don't want their hourly wages to go to paying me, when I know they'd much rather be home with their child.

I charge $25/day and they provide their own diapers & formula. I provide any other foods & drinks. Anything less and I wouldn't feel like it was worth the work of having an extra kiddo around.

I would do a full day rate (like 5+ hours) and a half day rate if I were you. Then it's a set thing and you guys aren't butting heads and calculating "Oh it was 4 hours and 35 minutes Monday, but 8 hours Tuesday...or was it 7 hours?"
Just do $25ish for a full day and if it's under 5 hours make it $15.

I do $10 a day per child and I provide nothing. But this is all the family can afford and I am not in it for the money... I simply do it so my kids can have interaction with other kids bc we only have one vehicle and dh has it daily 11am- 10pm... It really depends on you and them and what they can afford

You can't really charge $5, $10, etc an hour when you are doing in home babysitting. It's one thing to pay a teenager like that who's watching you kids like a few hours here & there, but for regular full time care most working parents who are using a babysitter rather than a daycare or nanny couldn't afford that much. Charge $8 or $10 an hour and your 40 hours of working plus the 5 hours you probably use in time before & after work commute and you're paying $360-$450 a week to you sitter. That's most people's entire paycheck or more after taxes are taken out.

I have 4 that go to a babysitter, she watches just mine and I got an awesome deal. I pay $wp a week for my 9 year old, $40 a week for my 3 year old, $60 a week for my 2 year old and $80 a week for my 8 month old... when they were in an actual daycare it was $90 a week if they were over 3yrs and $120 a week under 3.

It depends a lot on where you live.
