Baby HATES being strapped in...

My 8 month old SCREAMS and writhes and squirms every time I strap him into his car seat, stroller, high chair etc. Eventually he will stop and distract himself with something but it's near impossible to get strapped in when he's arching his back and tensing up his whole body, throwing his head back and howling...any tips for making this process a little smoother? He's a very active, willful boy and I understand he doesn't like to have his movement confined but I think he needs to start to learn that he has to cooperate a little and not fight me.

My dd was like that until I was able to ff her which was at a year( and yes this was before erf was a thing). After she was forward facing. She was great I think it was because she could see me and what was going on

Distraction is really the best tool in your tool box right now :)
Use a light up musical toy, bottle (if you use them) pacifier, music on your phone. Just something to distract him for a few minutes.

I had to laugh out loud at the "he needs to start to learn that he has to cooperate"

The only thing you can do at this point is try and distract him as much as you can and make it fun. Don't fuss at him or yell at him, baby's may not understand words but they understand the tone- eventually he will get used to it.

Good luck mama

U could try the baby mirrors or dangle toys on the back seats that might help him keep calm it will probably get better once he is forward facing

It is just a phase my daughter was like that too and is sometimes when she is haveing a cranky day. My daughter also vaults right. Out of her chair when you start removing the straps lol.

My oldest was like that. When I was legally able to turn her around to forward facing I did. She was maybe 14 months old by the time she met the weight limit. The day the carseat turned the terror stopped.

Until then Make the straps really loose when its not in use it will be easier to manuver around they struggling child, then pull the tightener everytime to make sure he is secure. It works if you have a carseat that has an easy adjustment system.

Since you said he fights straps in a stroller, too, and not just a car seat, I don't think forward facing is the answer. Distract him as much as you can. A snack (if he's eating food yet), a pacifier, a bottle (if you're not EBF), might be better options over a toy to keep him occupied. I agree with a PP about loosening the straps, buckle him, then make sure they're properly tightened.

For the high chair , I have nothing, but for the car seat and stroller. I suggest doing it as soon as you walk out the door. My stroller sits at the bottom of the stairs so I can put my little one in it and then go outside, but he fights it. If I go through them door first, he's perfectly happy with it.
