I have a washer and dryer and did not with my first child. I have a newborn, now. : ) I was wondering if there are good recommendations for what brand cloth diapers you ladies prefer. I have been doing some research. I have some ideas. Just looking for practical input from those in the "know". : )
*UPDATE* I am really liking what I see in the Flips. I like that they are adjustable and it seems like you really only need two covers (one that is set up ready to go for the change and one on the baby) and the ease of removing an insert. I also like the fact the insert can be washed and dried. No hanging anything to dry (except the cover if need be). I also like that they have disposable inserts for on the go! : ) Is this product all I am hoping for?
I prefer wahm makers...
If you are going for cheap, the Thirsties Duo wraps are said to fit newborns well and then just use prefolds in them :)
it's totally personal preference, if I were you I'd do a trial where you can return things you don't like for store credit and order things you do like. I thought I would love pockets and I hate them, but I love flats and fitteds with covers.
I don't know if these are the current prices or not, or if you'll have to join to see the post.

I know that momsmilkboutique.com and jilliansdrawers.com both have reputable trial programs.
If I were looking into commercial diapers, I'd be looking at either flip or grovia, personally. I've never personally tried them, so I can't vouch for them or anything... but that's the system I'd use for my bread and butter.
I only use WAHM diapers (with the exception of maybe 2 diapers that I bought used when I first began) so I can' t really give advice on the different commercial brands.
For WAHM's, some my favorites are Clover Hill Crafts, Licorice Lane, and Mac-a-doodle. Cuties with Cloth booties has some great info. You could check Hyenacart for some different options (and many on there do sell China dipes, as well, not just WAHM dipes).
EDIT TO ADD: You could also join diaperswappers.com and go to the market page. They always have TONS of NB and OS diapers for sale. Many of the newborn diapers are still in practically new condition. If you really check around, you can catch some good deals to try different kinds before committing to one kind. :)
oh, and I personally use Little Lions fitteds during the day with rumparooz, blueberry and bummies super lite covers, and bagshotrow bamboo diapers (hyena cart) overnight most of the time. I also have a few packs of flannel 30x30 blankets that I use as flats (origami fold)
really, I know you "think" you like them based on looks (that's what I thought about pockets), but really do a trial of some sort. and no, with a child under 12 months you need at least 4 covers, they will have to be washed if they get poop on them, and they WILL get poop on them at least once a day.
let me also add, I hate my flip cover, but I know several who love their flip covers...I don't like thirsties covers because the elastic on the gusset is thinner than the elastic on other covers and it digs into my kids thighs (and trust me, they don't have big thighs)
