When did you introduce the sippy cup?

I'm needing some advice on when to start my 5month old baby girl with a sippy cup. At her last WIC appt, they told me to introduce the sippy cup at least by 6mos. They said that the baby prob wont be able to hold it or know what to do w/ it but to let them practice. I was told to put breastmilk or formula in the sippy. When I asked if that was kind of early, they said that if I wait too long that it could make it tough to wean her from the bottle later. When did you start giving your little one a sippy to practice with? Did you start w/ the soft tipped or hard tipped ones? Thanks!

I started with the soft tip. (Make sure the sippy is in the right age range for her). You can start as early as 6 months, but I didn't start until around 8 months. (This is also when I started letting him eat finger foods). After he got the hang of it I started cutting out bottles. By the time he was 1 he wa ready to have all of his bottles thrown out.

I started giving my baby a sippy at 7 months. I used the soft tip only because she did not like the hard tip. When she turned one that is when I took her off the bottle completely and it was really easy for me to get her off the bottle. She didn't cry for it or anything. She got off formula a month later and now drinks whole milk and juice :)

I started with a little juice between 7 and 8 months with my second, my first hand no problem weening off the bottle and formula. WIC can beca little overzealous in pushing the next stage onto baby, do it when you are ready and when you think she is ready

At six months I introduced mine. I used one of these: It has handles and has a nipple like spout. He liked it a lot. (Nuk brand)

I started giving her a sippy with handles around 5 months but she was already sitting up by herself. I put a little ice water in it so she wouldn't waste my precious breast milk and because it was hot and the cold water would spill out on her lol. She played with it shaking it because of the ice and it helped numb her gums because she was teething too. Now she's 6 months and she'll drink the water from it with little spillage. I'm gonna start putting breast milk in it soon now that she's almost got it down. No juice until she's one, imo.

Around 10 months, with a soft spout, or straw.

This was the only one my DS would take!
