1 mom liked this
I would use some saline drops in his nose to loosen everything up before you suck it out. Definately call the doc though. My preemie son developed RSV when he was 8 weeks old and had to be put on antibiotics because he developed a double ear infection and almost developed pneumonia. He is fine now though but it's really best if you call the doc

This is exactly what I was going to ask.. Pertussis aka whooping cough is very serious and dangerous for newborns and going around.. Hopefully you have taken your baby to dr or hospital.

Quoting Mrs_Nelson:

To the op... if your still here. Is the baby making any funny noises when he chokes or when he breathes in? Like a weesy sound or a rattle sound(you might have to put your ear on his chest to hear that one) or a whooping sound like whooooooooop when he finally gets to take a breath?

If it's real bad I would probably go to the er. Otherwise I agree with the hot shower. Also elevate the head of the crib with a pillow or blanket under the mattress.

Thats what i was thinking plus at three weeks he wouldn't have had his first DTaP yet.

Yes exactly.. I hope she took him because I also read and heard that it could still be whooping cough without the whooping sound especially if it's just the start..

It can also be bronchiolitis, bronchitis, or pneumonia.
OP: These ladies have given some great advice. I also agree to watch for retraction. Not just around the ribs/tummy but if the skin around the bottom of the neck goes inwards when he breathes then that also means he's retracting. My older dd had that happen twice and both times she had to be admitted into the hospital so it can be very serious. Otherwise keep suctioning the nose, elevate the mattress where his head lays, try steaming or if it's chilly outside you can try wrapping him in a blanket and taking him outside for a few minutes. But I would definitely bring him into the doctor as soon as possible just to make sure since he's still so little.

I agree.. There are many things it could possibly be and being that young and little, he definitely needs to be seen!!
