my little guy (9 months) started getting a rash this morning. We put some maximum strength desitin on it and it was okay. then as the day went on it was a little worse with each diaper change. i switched to quick relief desitin and when i just changed his diaper he is so red it looks like an apple. i want to cry, the next thing that is going to happen is his skin will start cracking and bleeding!!

he is in the bathtub right now and seems to be doing fine. my husband is on the way to the store as we speak to get some other type of butt cream. i already bought sensitive wipes and a different brand of diapers on the way home eariler today.

he has been wearing luvs since he was born and we have always used the same wipes as well. he has had a rash (not as bad) one other time and we used the desitin and it went away the same day. i have no idea what is going on! the only thing else that i can think of is that he started eating cheerio's. that is the only thing that is different.

what is going on? how do i get this rash to go away? my poor baby is in pain.

use a warm wash cloth to wipe his butt. try vaseline or baby powder if you havent.

Also I would not use wipes right now, just plain water because the wipes still can irritate.

DD just had a bad one aswell. I put lots of blankets down and put her tosleep without a diaper on and the next morning it was pretty much gone :) I also find burnt flower works the best on DD

It may be an allergic reaction or yeast. Try letting it air out for a while

I agree with this and give little dude plenty of air time on his bum.If not showing any signs of improving it could be a yeast  infection and that you need special oitment. G/L

I always put baking soda in my kids bath whenever they have a rash and it clears it up almost immediatly every time also a&d works really well.

I dislike Desitin - doesn't seem to work well at all. We use Triple Paste - it's kind of expensive but SO worth it! Also, if the rash doesn't go away with diaper cream I would ask the pediatrician about yeast. It could be that too. Good luck mama, I know how hard it is to see baby uncomfortable. :/ Hope he is feeling better soon!

One of my sons gets rashes like that when he is teething, too. I use psudocrem on him (it's a bedsore ointment I get off amazon.com). Works really well!

oh he is teething! i didnt even think of that! thank you. how do i make it go away if creams and stuff arent working?

Quoting spykgurlcom:

Teething is a possibility. A rash is a sign of teething along with exessive drool and slight fever.

Ouch! That seems like it would hurt an open sore.

Get some organic apple cider vinegar(preferably with the "mother" in it...usually in specialty food isle at grocery store) put in squirt bottle with water to dilute it, it WILL NOT STING!! Spray on at each diaper change n pat dry. Miracle cure!! If u want to, put some "Bag Balm" on with each change too, but prob no need, redness will be gone in morning!! I swear by this! Our dd can't drink juice at all and every time someone accidentally gives her some she gets so raw it brings blood, but the vinegar has her comfy and healing by morning! Good luck!!
