I think this article pretty much covers all the bases of bringing home a newborn whether you are a first time mom or it's your second ot third time around.  I think the  most imporatant thing is getting adjusted to your infants new sleeping patterns and making sure you get the rest you need.  A company called Go Mama Go Designs helped me with this a great deal.  I pretty much just put my daughter in her crib with a crib sheet only, swaddled her, and installed a product called Wonder Bumpers on her crib.  Wonder Bumpers are a crib bumper alternaitve.  There have been several reports of SIDS due to old fashioned crib bumpers in the past few years.  Wonder Bumpers are simply a padded product that easliy zips onto your childs crib bars and protects them from danger.  Also, Go Mama Go Designs have these awesome swaddle blankets that are super easy to put on and are made of a really comfortable material.  These two tricks helped me so much, my daughter was sleeping 10 hours a night at 6 weeks old.  Things got a lot less stressful from there.
