How long should I breast feed? Since we got her home she hardly wanted to go to the breast but every three or four hours I pump and my nippels are starting to really hurt?

You have to do what's right for you. I did just over a year of mostly pumping but I did nurse when I could. Is your pump on a low enough setting? That will make a difference. Also just keeping introducing the breast. The more you try the more apt she is to finally take it. Try different positions. I personally like to nurse laying in bed. Also have her undressed skin to skin with your chest. It helps the milk supply and also can help them want to nurse. What I did once ds would latch (he took me three months to get him to want to latch) I would nurse and then pump for 10-15 minutes to build up my supply for bottle feelings. Hang in there mama and try not to stress cause baby will sense it and not relax enough to nurse.

I had to relactate when my DS was about 2 1/2 weeks old. Long story but he underwent surgery when he was 2 days old because he had a malrotation of the bowel. Basically he could not eat when he was born so he was fed through IV for the first week until all the acid was cleared out of his stomach. I was pumping that first week at the hospital and then got my owm breast pump. The hospital would feed him BM every 3 hrs because he was never hungry. He was about a month old until he finally cried that he was hungry for the first time and I cried too!!! The thing is I kept trying to offer the boob everyfeeding although I gave n a couple of times and gave him the bottle  but I kept at it. Now he loves the boob he hasn't had a bottle in months. It is possible to relactate but throw out the bottles first and see a LC. GL

It's a personal decision. I was only able to breastfeed my first for a month. My other two I breastfed until eight months old and they were completely weaned by ten months. That is the plan for my fourth baby as well. All of my children are healthy, smart and happy so don't let anyone bully you about breast vs formula.

I would go to a lactation consultant, they are provided as a free service at hospitals.

Go to the exclusively pumping group. Are you lubricating before you pump? Are you sure your flanges are the correct size? Can you adjust your speed/suction on your pump

Try nipple cream. It really helped me. Walmart has a few brands. It's in the baby department over by the bottles & pacifiers.

I'm personally following the world health organization recommendation of going at least two years but any breast milk is better the none and I believe each mom knows best.
