Depending on the make/model of your carset it is on the bottom or on the back. They expire for safety reasons. Even though carsets are meant to be strong they also wear and tear. If you get in an accident you are suppose to dispose of it and get a brand new one even if you think the carset is fine.

Where does it show you an expiration date? And how do they expire?

Quoting jenny0709:

Yes! They sure do!

Also if it has been in an accident you need to replace it. Never buy second hand for that reason. You dont know if it was in an accident or not.

It's on one of the many stickers on the side or bottom of the carseat.  Usually, they last 7 years from manufacture and they expire because the plastic gets brittle.

Do you mean 6 years? Not 6 months?

Quoting lillysnow:

your susposed to change it every 6 months. on the underside of them some have like a clock with the arrow pointing to the month and then on both sides of the center dot will be the year.

Okay so another serious question. As long as my current car seat is NOT expired and it has NOT been in an accident is it safe to use for baby #2. Baby #1 is already in a bigger car seat and baby #2 is due in April. They will be 20 months apart when baby #2 is born. I'm just asking because I didn't even know that car seats had an expiration date until today.

Sure can. My babies have been close enough that all 3 are going to be using the same infant seat, lol.

6 months is what I read on another post on CafeMom a while back that you're supposed to change them out every 6 months or even if they been in a tiny wreck. a lot of other moms were going on about how that would cost a lot.
