This works great for us. He sleeps well and loves it. Markus is a year old. His room is baby proofed so he has freedom in his room. Just wondering if anyone else does this.

we used to...back when I was concerned about them rolling off of a big bed, but they had learned to climb out of the crib. We had each of the like that for a year or two before we got them a frame, and they had gotten used to their bed's limits...becuase even with the mattress on the floor they did roll out of bed, they just didn't fall hard or hurt themselves ;)

Exactly! I have walked in to check on him and he's on the floor sleeping...lol. When he's around 2.5 we will probably get him an actual bed.

I love it. And I like that he can get out of bed if he wants instead of me having to go get him. Its easier for me and it gives him a little independence. I took his door offbecause I was afraid of him smashing his hands or something like that.

No. But my kids had the toddler bed mastered before we switched them, so I wasn't worried about them climbing or getting out of bed

This is s0o cute =)

I won't be doing this though as the DH bough my DD a convertable crib which should take her till she hates it as a teen....maybe she'll never hate it?

we had a convertible crib so we just took the side off and made the mattress as low as it would go. She never fell out... but our crib goes really really low. like 4 inches off the ground.

Then after a few months she was too big for the crib mattress and we just got her a twin bed.
