Acid Reflux in Newborns

hello there ladies,

I have a 2 month old with acid reflux. Doctor first prescribed him zantac but since his symptoms lasted she put him on Prevacid. Now even that does not help. I was afraid to go back to the same doctor cos i do not want to give him any more medication.

The same doctor kept changing his formulas from cows milk formula, to sensitive, to soy and currently on Nutramigen by Enfamil. It is pricey and his symptoms are the same. He spits up every time he drinks milk aand even after 30 min or so. He is very fussy and is overstimulated and had fever once.

This other doctor I went to thinks baby should not take any medication and I could give him gripe water. However, he said I should not waste money on pricey formulas because baby does not need that. The new doctor believes that baby will do fine with the cows milk formula that he originally started with.

while doing some research online I found Enfamil makes a formula for spit-ups! I don't know if I want baby to start up another pricey formula .Have you ever tried the Enfamil AR  formula with your baby? IF so, did it help with the acid Reflux/ spit ups? or Should I go with cows milk formula ?

Please help.

Sorry, neither of my kids experienced acid reflux (both formula fed for a year).

Bump!

1 mom liked this

I realise one thing is that he does drink a lot of milk. He uses the bottle to soothe him( he used to like the coziness of breastfeeding and used that to soothe him. I think this is where it comes from)  and drinks very fast and as long the milk last in the bottle. I have been trying to give him less than he used to drink and it works. HOwever, the spitting is still there ... But with lesser and frequent milk and Grip water he is a happy spit up baby than a fussy one.

thanks all for your replies.

NON-vaccinated children dont seem to have this problem, at least I havent  found any.  Might be something to consider with future children.  Vaccinated children have 5 times more problems and diseases than the NON-vaccinated children.  It makes a whole lot of sense when you consider whats in a vaccine and how many times a child is injected with that horrible crap.  They damage the immune system.  They are NOT protection.

SOCO,   Much higher risk to vaccinate as opposed to NOT-vaccinating.  I've done 7 years of research on this subject.  You know what your doctor tells you and he is in the business to make money and he only makes money if there are sick people.  They LOVE sick people.  Be sure and get your flu shot.  Especially if you need an abortion, they work wonderfully for that.

My youngest isn't vaccinated but has/had silent reflux. We're not really treating her it has gotten better but it's not resolved yet. I hope she outgrows it.
That said I agree vaccines raises many risks

DD had it but it was never bad enough to be put on medication. I elevated her when she was sleeping, and switched her to similac for gas and fussiness.

Something I know now that I wish I would have known then. Feeding her less, with less time in between feedings would have helped her.

You can also try pepcid.  Zantac and Previcid doesn't work on everybody.  I've tried zantac and previcid both and neither helped at all.  I use pepcid and prilosec when I need to.  I cannot give any advice about formula though.  My kid is 15 and she never had any problem with reflux.  Good luck momma.

Do you really have any facts to back that up? I get so sick of hearing "don't vaccinate your children". Not only does it put your child at a higher risk for getting diseases and infections, that they would otherwise be immune to. It means that these diseases that have almost become dormant are starting to creep back into society. Can you really tell me that it was a mistake eradicating small pox, by using vaccines? No. Unless your child has shown an allergic reaction to vaccines in the past, there is no reason they should not be vaccinated. Why do mothers put their children at risk like this? I will never understand it.

My son is 2 1/2 months old, he has reflux/gerd. He just had a hospital visit for projectile vomiting then he choked and stopped breathing for a minute. We tried zantac but his body wouldn't tolerate it, he is allergic to soy so we cannot do that. So we are now trying prevacid and if that doesn't work we will be doing gI test to see if there is another underlying issue. Oh also my son does not over eat, half the time he refuses feedings because he is so upset. He has regurgitating constant hiccups and wet coughs which are all from the same reflux/gerd problem.
