How do you feed solids?

I started my 6 mo on solids.  As soon as I take the spoon near him he grabs and puts it in his mouth...you know the way most babies have the urge to grab things and feel them with their mouth at this age.

So I let him feed himself.  But he makes a whole lot of mess :)

How do you feed your baby?  Do you let him/ her self feed, or hold their hand and feed him ?

You could let him hold a plastic baby spoon while you feed him. It'll keep his hands occupied as well as letting him practice at getting the spoon in his mouth while you're feeding him (and you avoid the larger mess).

I do baby led weaning, so yes, I let them feed themselves. It gets messy but it cleans up.

I help him hold the spoon and help him guide it to his mouth.

I don't start spoons and forks until after the 1st birthday. Before that, I give soft chunks of table food and let baby feed him or herself.

I give baby a spoon and then put soft foods I front of them. I start solids around 7-8 months. Everyone comments on how my 2 year old can eat with adult silverware without making a mess and I honestly believe its because I never force fed her (ie spoon fed), I let her feed herself so she has had a ton of practice.

Definitely let him feed himself.  How else is he gonna learn?  He is washable!

My DD does it when she is older. I agree with giving her a spoon to hold on while you feed him. So what do you feed your baby at this stage??My DD loves mashed potato with breastmilk.

we had a squeezy spoon where you fill it with the food then just squeeze it...
