newborn fever

Kai is 11 days old. Well...almost 12. He has been acting very strange today. Fussy, not wanting to be put down to the point of waking immediatly if i do, constantly eating. I thought maybe he wasnt getting enough from me (first time bf) so i gave him some formula and he threw it right up(never spit up or thrown up before that) and he has a temp of 99.3.

I called the advise nurse and she said not to worry unless he stops making wet diapers or his temp goes up higher. My question is...since its been 6 yrs since I had a baby...could this all be normal growing stuff...or is he probably sick?

My two other boys have colds, my dad is getting over pneumonia and my cousin has the flu. All people he has been around. Im just worried because he is so little.

99.3 isn't a fever. If he does develop a real fever, newborn needs medical attention immediately.

Being cranky, fussy, & weird is normal newborn behavior. It's not am indication he's not getting enough from you. As long as diapers are there, he's getting plenty. Supplementing like that could cause supply issues. Also if he's sick or been exposed, breastfeeding is the best protection out there. Unfortunately he has no immune system yet, so he's likely to still get sick being around so many ill people. Your milk will help it be less severe though

Keep a close watch. I think it's pretty serious for little newbies to get a fever. I hope it's nothing.
