Encouraging DS to sit up

So, DS had heart surgery on Dec. 13th. He is pretty much healed up and started rolling around again about 2 weeks ago. Our doctors want him upright more, to get his muscles stronger. For the most part he is just on his back and tummy. He will be in the high chair a few times a day.

How can I encourage him to sit up on his own?

If I put him between my legs, he will just scoot down. Even if toys are in front of him he won't stay up. I don't want to rush him but I want him up more.

Any tips?

Would a bumbo or activity center help?

We don't have a bumbo. But we have an activity center. He will like it for 1 minute then scream until I take him out.

hmmm, I was going to suggest a exersaucer or something to that effect. How old is he?

I agree with the bumbo. Or even a doorway jumper, that'd help his leg muscles to build for walking also

These would be my suggestions as well.

My daughter is 8 months and we actually had to quit using a bumbo a couple months ago, I don't know how strong your DS is but my girl will lift up her back and arch if she was put in a bumbo, that started around 5/6 months. I'd say sitting him on the floor facing you and holding his hands to help him. As someone else asked, could he sit up before surgery? I'm sorry he had to go through that :( poor little guy, sounds like he is recovering well though :) My daughter loves the big bouncer thing, its on a stand, I don't know if you could find one used or something, we were given one by a friend of mine.

Lots of one on one time will help though, with helping him sit up by holding his hands. We used to lay our LO on her back and hold her hands, helping her do "baby sit ups" lol, it seemed to help and then we moved to just sitting her up and holding her hands so she could stay in a sitting position. :) hope you can figure something out.
