You can try... but dairy intolerances generally don't clear up this early. It can happen, it's just not super common.

Nutramigen is hypo-allergenic formula for babies who are allergic to dairy and soy. His gas and "colic" were symptoms of dairy intolerance... many babies will outrow it around a year, others take longer... which is why your doctor probably said he should be able to handle milk after a year.
Really, talk to his doctor about it.
