Posted by   + Show Post
I have a 2 1/2 old baby and well she was pooping a good five times a day. Now the past 3 days she's only pooped well 3 times so once a day!!! She has been farting like crazy but not the normal pooping pattern...is this normal?

Your milk is nature's best laxative and constipation is very unlikely unless something else is given.
Breastfed babies can go up to a few weeks without pooping and it is fine as long as the stomach isn't rock hard, gas is still passing, and the poops aren't hard, dry pellets when they do come. Be ready for a blowout.

Not pooping is not constipation. Pooping hard, dry pellets IS constipation.

Is the baby breastfed or formula fed?

You're welcome! :-)
Next time, chime over to the breastfeeding group and we'll settle your nerves. The group record there is 20 days of no poop with a normal blowout at the end.

My daughter starting going a week between poops at 3 weeks old.   It's totally normal for EBF babies... constipation is nearly unheard of when baby is EBF.
