I had an experience a couple of months back, I had a premature baby. He was born 6 weeks early. Weighed 3 pounds 15 ounces. He was in the NICU for 10 days after birth and was doing fine. About a month after getting out he started having choking spells. He would stop breathing. My husband is a firefighter/EMT so thank goodness he knew how to do backblows etc on him. We took him into the NICU again and had to stay a few more days. they decided he had reflux and that was making him choke. Well a couple weeks later he started having episodes what at times looked liked choking. One morning it finally clicked, I couldnt help him. He wouldnt stop stiffening and releasing and spitting up and giving me a blank stare. I couldnt help him. I felt helpless. But the first thing I thought was he was having a seizure. So of course I panicked and called his NICU dr and they had me get an ambulance. He would have these episodes every 3 days. He only stayed in the hopsital so they could watch him for 24 hours. so of course they didnt see anything said it was reflux, thought I was faking and sent us home. He kept having the episodes. The drs would ignore my calls and did alot of other stuff called us liars etc. So I went and got a second opinion. I went and saw a neorologist. which the last hopsital didnt do any tests or didnt have a neorologist come in to see my baby. well they did tests at this other hospital and they diagnosed him with epilepsy which hopefully he will grow out of. They put him on some meds and he has only had one episode since. I trusted my gut because I knew my baby was having seizures.
If a dr told you your baby was fine but you knew something wasnt right would you trust your dr or your gut? To me now I know always to trust my gut.
