My daughter is almost 11 months old and has started saying words like mama and dada, well her dad has never been a part of her life, he dumped me while I was pregnant and I got with another guy, well I am still with him and he has done a great job being a father figure to her, I am expecting our first together in May and my daughter has started calling him dada, I think to myself well her dad isn't ever going to be in her life and Dave (my boyfriend) is more of a father figure to her than anyone so what should I do? I mean he isn't really her dad but he mine as well be. I've been with him for over a year and a half now and we live together, and plan on having a family together. Is it ok that she calls him daddy?

2 moms liked this

He's raising her with you there is no reason why she shouldn't be able to call him that if she wants. If her Dad was in the picture then it would be different, because a true man doesn't want their child calling another man Daddy.

My kids were 3 and 5 when their father left us.

I met and married someone else and they now call him daddy. They made the choice to call him that. He takes 90% care of them, so why not!

I don't see why not. If he is her father figure, then let him. :)

I think I'm going to let her continue calling him daddy, he's the only daddy she knows.

That is probably what I would to, too. Sounds like you have a good man there.

My son's father died shortly after he was born, I have found a wonderful man. We've been together about a year now, and he is the best father. Instead of calling him dad or daddy, we choose the word boban, it is a scottish gaelic word for daddy. We both have scottish heritage, and we were more comfortable with that for now. But when my son gets older we are going to allow him to decide what he wants to call him.

I don't see anything wrong with her calling him daddy though, sounds like he is a good man, and she must think he is a good daddy too!

My SD calls me Mommy, her BM gave my husband custody of SD so she's hardly in SD's life, I dont see the problem with your DD calling your boyfriend Daddy.

yes!! it is definitely ok. Sperm donors don't qualify as fathers. It takes actual work to be a father and  to earn the title as a father.

Dh isn't my oldests bio dad but her real dad only comes around once in a blue moon. He has 0 rights to her and he doesn't want them. She calls dh daddy. He raises her, provides for her, and loves her so he is her daddy.
