My son has been coughing for days and I thought it was just a cold. No big deal. Last night he had a fever. This morning his cough sounds like a barking seal.I am calling the doctor as soon as they open.

they will call it a "croup" cough.  It is typically no worse than a regualr cold.  Are you running a humidifier?

I agree. I "barking" cough is characteristic of croup. My nephew has had it a few times.

Poor baby!  Sounds like croup.  Croup is a contagious virus.  With a croupy cough most kids need a steriod to break it up or even breathing treatments.  Some times there can be so much 'gunk' that it won't clear fast enough and will cause ear infections and need antibiotics.  Hope he gets to feeling better!!!!

Keep a cool mist humidifier running!!!!!

The doctor said he has a cold. He wants me to do all the normal stuff. Vaporizer and tylenol for fever.

This. My daughter had it a couple months ago. Some kids need nebulizers.
