How do you best teach younger babies that hitting, biting, and "tantrums" are not okay?

I kind of thought that she is too young for tantrums, but that is what people are telling me they are. She is 5 1/2 months, btw.
When she gets frustrated, she has a variety of very awful ways of showing it. Some pretty average. She screams, of course. She growls, scratches, grabs handfuls of skin, bites, kicks, screams, flails, beats her toys into the ground. She has been biting and scratching people in the face. I showed up to work today with a bloody and bruised forehead from where she got my face. She is pretty much just screaming all the time and I just feel like I am about to cry. The babysitter even quit. How do I teach her not to do this to people?

1 mom liked this
I would definitely take her to the doctor to get the stuff checked out.... make a list if the things she does ...If there is no bad blood between you and the baby sitter I would ask her to write a note too, Sometimes doctors are more prone to listening if they see it's more than just mothers worries, kwim?

My son didn't throw those kinds of tantrums n at the age, but at nine months old he did, It seems as if it was out of frustration for lack of communication.... we are getting him tested for autism ( he's five now) And I wish my doctor had listen to me a lot earlier on about the tantrums he was throwing.

Thank you guys for the advice. I hope it isn't anything too serious like that. I'm calling the doctor in the morning. I feel as if they hear so much from me, I won't be taken seriously. But they are good about getting her in. This behavior is flat out daining. And I wasn't expecting it from my sweet baby this early. :/

we are just now starting to deal with tantrums and shes 20 months.

I agree with the other moms to take her to the doctor.

Like I said make sure you ask your babysitter or maybe another family member or caregiver if they will make a note On experiences they have seen or been through, make your husband go with you. You sound a lot less crazy when you have someone there backing up what you're saying, And less like a mom who is overthinking things when you have outsiders backing you up.... kwim?
