What if Anything did the hospital.....

Posted by   + Show Post

What if anything did the hospital/midwife/doula give you, that you found the most helpful with new baby?

For me, it was when my 2nd was born, and I was given the video, "The Period of PURPLE Crying".  Neither of my girls, ever had any issues, they weren't ever very fussy (babies 1 and 2)  however when child 3 came along (my sweet little angle boy) all of a sudden I had this fussy little baby, that no matter what I tried....nothing worked.   Had I not watched that video the year prior  (there are 11 m between 2 and 3) I likely would have been pulling my hair out and having a complete breakdown, as I know I would have thought I was doing something wrong, and would not have taken it as being a "normal" thing.

Not a whole lot. We got to keep everything that was underneath the portable baby bed which amounted to diapers and some of those white t-shirts with 10 different buttons on them. They did give me a diaper bag that had some breastfeeding supplies in it which was bittersweet for me...because I ended up not being able to breastfeed anyway.

Not anything special. We got a package of newborn diapers. Honestly, the only thing I was really grateful for was the huge feminine pads. lol

A trick that the lactation consultant told me called "the boobie sandwich". I used that for months.

I delivered at Northside hospital in ATL, they gave me so much and everyone was very knowledgable. From the PCT's up to the nurse managers, everyone had so many tips on burping, nursing, etc. They treated me so great and I gave them all rave reviews.
Tips from family and reading:
**Sleep when baby sleeps (if you can) is soo true!
**Play with your baby and love them dearly rather than cleaning the house or worrying about material items that you don't have for them.
**Try not to neglect your hubby/BF even if it means just falling asleep in his arms.

What an excellent idea...

The government should offer every new mom one complimentary massage for every baby born LOL...

this. The lactation specialist helped me make sure the latch was good. And one of the hospitals I delivered at offers a massage session with a massage therapist.

Lactation nurse. She helped me get my 2nd child to latch before we left the hospital.  I was out of ideas and she had some tricks.  They worked and we are EBF (no solids) for almost 5 months and counting.

Um.... my baby's pedi reminded me not to eat dairy products (which I don't like anyway) because it makes it harder to....um...... go that special kind of potty :)

It was actually helpful because that day my xh had gone to the store and gotten tons of nasty dairy products lolol

They let me take my dd home. I didn't care about anything else. She was in the NICU for 5 days and that was pretty stressful.
