How many newborn diapers?

So my mother in law just sent us 12 packages of diapers haha with 36 per pack.  Which was awesome yes, but is that what I need?

I'm a first time mom and I know every baby is different but I'm thinking I should return some of these because he'll grow too fast to use them all in that size?  I was thinking maybe try to take back at least half of them for larger sizes?  I have no idea.

I changed between 10-20 diapers a day in the first couple weeks. I bought 1 pack of newborn then size 1 because you can fold them down to fit.

Yeah I would trade a bunch for size one.

If you change every 2 hours each pack should last about 3 days. Some babies are in newborn for a week and others s month. some skip newborn entirely. I'd return a few for larger sizes or a gift card so you can get the sizes you need as you need them.

I changed roughly 24 a day during the newborn strange sometimes 30 something.
100 diapers never lasted a week.
Ever consider cloth?

oh and DS write newborn for two weeks before I switched him to cloth. he would have been in that size at least a month and a half.

you can always return half and then replace it with stage 1 diapers

Depends on the size of the baby. DS1 was in nb diapers for a week, DD was in premie for a month then nb for 2 months, dS2 was in nb diapers for just the 1 package because I couldn't take them back. DS2 has been in size 3 diapers since he was 2 months.
If they are all nb, maybe take all but 1 or 2 back for sizes 1 and 2.

I'd just wait it out. You can use what you need and then exchange them when baby is in need of the bigger size. I'd hate to have to make 2 return trips or go buy more in that size because you returned them. Just my opinion though.

Did she send a receipt with them? I don't remember how many diapers we went through in newborn size before we needed to go to the next size up.

I always start with size 1 and stock up on those.
