I was changing my baby girl and noticed what looked like crystals in her diaper. What could this be?

Like inside the diaper, like when ripped open? That's just the material it's made with- it absorbs the urine/poo

To my knowledge that means baby's diaper has gotten way too soaking wet and probably should have been changed sooner :)
It's the absorbent material from the diaper bursting out once it gets too full.

Yup, this. I washed a disposable in the washer accidentally recently, not fun. Those crystals are hard to get out!

It's just the diaper. Nothing to worry about. :-)

Yeah I bet! Those are hard enough to remove from skin.
The times I've seen them were when watching my neighbor's kid, they'd drop him off around 10 in the morning and I'd swear that diaper he was in was the same one I put on him the previous afternoon right before he got picked up, every time. That poor kid always had diaper crystals on him and was always dealing with rashes :(

Ok, that makes sense. I got home from work and she was sleeping on my FIL lap, don't think he knew she needed to be changed.

It's the crystals in disposable diapers. That is what makes them absorbent. Nasty stuff!

Sounds like the diaper is rather not a very good one or there was so much pee that it basically exploded
