you can start as soon as you want, she may not pick on it until later, but the earlier you start the more she will do when she is able to.
You can begin showing it to them at three months so that when they are coordinated enough to do it as well, they already know what each sign means. Exposure early is definitely a good thing. I think I started around 4-5 months.
I wish I had started at 3 months just to get in the habit of doing it, I always forget.
I started somewhere around then. She won't start signing back for a while, but the more you do it the more likely she'll respond. My oldest never did but started talking before he turned one. My little guy started signing and did really well with it. The sooner you start, the more she sees it, the easier it will be for her to mimic the signs when shes able. I also would take his hands and help him make the signs. One day he just started doing it on his own.
