1 mom liked this
When they could sit unassisted in a high chair, had lost tongue thrust reflex, could use pincer grasp to put food in their own mouths and no longer had open gut (after six months). No purees or spoon feeding. Always nurse immediately before solids before age one.

Dd was six months exactly. She had met the other milestones already so I just waited for the six months. Ds was maybe 6 1/2 months old. He wasn't as interested in foods. He didn't start eating more than a few bites every other day or so until closer to nine months.

The earliest we started was the youngest baby (#4) and he was a day past 6 months. He'd be crazy interested in eating for a month or two so we jumped right in as soon as he was old enough. The older three were a bit older when we started.

First was after 6 months because he was interested, sitting up, loss of tongue thrust, and had pincer grasp to feed himself.  Second was 9 months because he had all the signs except he wasn't interested.  Both nursed 90% of the time though with solids maybe once every couple of days.

First one was late 4, early 5 months (dont remember an exact date). I didnt know any better and started too early at the recommendation of his pedi. I know better now. Baby will get not a bite till after 6mo and hes ready.
